The Boat Ride to Dale Hollow Lake State Park Golf Course

Imagine a day filled with your favorite things: lake life and golfing. Pack the boat with your golf clubs and head north into Kentucky. The ride over glassy water, below towering bluffs, and passing clear coves, is the way every perfect day should start. By the time you tie up at the marina and walk up the dock ramp to the parking lot, you’ve already had a rewarding morning. It’s an unforgettably exclusive way to arrive for a round of golf, and it shapes the whole day.

How to Dock at Dale Hollow Lake State Park Marina

Dale Hollow Lake State Park Marina has four short-term docking spots for day visitors. Two sit just past the fuel dock at the end closest to the walkway, and are easy to find on approach. The other two are on the far side of the marina — stay right and navigate past all the boat slips. They’re the last two slip spots closest to the walkway.

Once you’re tied up, walk up the walkway to the parking lot at the top. From there, the pro shop is a short shuttle ride away.

The Dale Hollow Lake State Park Golf Course Shuttle: Call Before You Go

The state park offers a complimentary shuttle from the marina parking lot up to the pro shop.

Call before you go: (270) 433-7888. Ask specifically whether the shuttle is running that day. We have missed tee times showing up on a day it wasn’t. The boat ride is fast, but there’s no backup if the shuttle is out of service. If you’re staying for drinks or dinner at Island View Restaurant after the round, ask about afternoon availability as well, since schedules can shift earlier than expected.

Dale Hollow Lake State Park Golf Course: What to Expect on the Course

Brian Ault, a prominent golf course architect, designed Dale Hollow Lake State Park Golf Course around the existing terrain, and it shows. Opened in 2003, the 18-hole, par-72 layout moves through forested ridges with real elevation change — not manufactured drama, but the natural consequence of building on Kentucky hillside. Rock outcroppings, ravines, and small caves appear throughout. The cart path between holes takes you through gorgeous cool, shaded forested areas, and is an experience in itself.

From the back tees the course plays 6,901 yards with a slope of 143 and a rating of 73.7 — a genuine test for any golfer. Five sets of tees make it playable at every skill level. The bentgrass greens are well-maintained, and the on-site practice facility (driving range, practice greens, practice bunker) is worth using before you start. Club rentals are available if you didn’t want to load a full bag onto the boat.

Island View Restaurant: Drinks, Lunch, and a View Before the Ride Home

The Island View Restaurant inside the lodge sits above the lake with floor-to-ceiling windows and a bird’s-eye view of the water you came in on. It’s a natural stop before heading back down to the dock. Enjoy lunch or a drink to cool off while overlooking a Dale Hollow island view. The restaurant often offers a delicious buffet with everything from catfish to roast, making it a rewarding stop after working up an appetite.

The ride south is a different experience than the ride north. The lake is running at its afternoon pace by then, with  boats out, and a busier energy. But heading back toward the Lake House with a full round behind you and clubs on the boat draws a serious sense of satisfaction — an unforgettable trip that few people ever experience.
