Memorial Weekend on Dale Hollow Lake: The Full Playbook

Long weekends are rare, and with so much happening on the lake, it’s sure to fly by. Here’s how to fit all of it in — from the first glassy morning to the last song of the night.

Memorial Weekend on Dale Hollow Lake is not the weekend to sleep in. Between a brand new restaurant opening, the return of Saturday night live music at Willow Grove, cliff jumping, world-class water clarity, and the best ice cream on the lake — you’re going to need a plan. Here it is.

Saturday Morning: Chase the Glassy Water Before the Lake Wakes Up

The single best-kept secret about a busy lake weekend: the mornings belong to whoever shows up first. Before the crowd is fully out, Dale Hollow goes mirror-flat. Two spots worth making the effort for:

Ashburn Creek — Quiet coves, calm water, and some of the best skiing on the lake if you get there early enough. This is the spot for people who want the lake to themselves for a little while longer.

Eastport Marina — The ride down is gorgeous on its own — a long, calm stretch of lake that stays surprisingly smooth even if you didn’t get the earliest start. And this year, Eastport has a real reason to stop beyond the scenery. They’ve just launched a brand new covered patio alongside a revamped menu. New breakfast lineup includes waffles — the right way to start a full day on the water. They’ve also built out a cigar and bourbon collection: fabulous views, a proper pour, and a great cigar. Come back for that in the afternoon. It earns the ride both ways.

Tip: Eastport stays calmer longer than the main lake on busy weekends. Even a late-morning run down there feels peaceful while the action is building up everywhere else.

New This Year: Steamers at Mitchell Creek — Dale Hollow's Boldest New Restaurant

Steamers grand opening is May 16 at Mitchell Creek Marina, which means by Memorial Weekend it’s up and running — and you’ll want to be one of the first to experience it. This isn’t your standard marina grill. The menu is genuinely ambitious: fresh raw oysters, sushi, sashimi, and serious Southern seafood — catfish dishes and shrimp and grits that remind you you’re in Tennessee, and proud of it. Not a seafood person? The French dip or chicken sliders have you covered.

Waterfront dining with a menu like this is a new thing for Dale Hollow. Don’t miss your chance to be early to it.

Saturday Afternoon: Two Spots Where Dale Hollow Shows Off

Five Fingers — The classic Dale Hollow boat hangout. This year, lower water levels have exposed new beaches that weren’t there last season — more room to spread out and explore. Get there early if you want prime anchoring real estate. It fills up fast, and for good reason.

This cove lives up to its namesake. Have you counted all five of the coves?

Wolf River Cliffs — Just past Wolf River Marina, and a completely different energy. The water here is always exceptionally clear and deep — the kind of clear that makes you want to jump in from as high as you can find. That’s exactly what people do. The cliffs draw the adrenaline crowd, and if you’ve never made a leap off the rocks into that water, this might be the weekend to do it. Boat music, floating, and a great atmosphere are the big draws to this area.

“The water clarity at Wolf River is the kind that makes jumping from a cliff feel like a completely reasonable idea.”

Saturday Afternoon — Non-Negotiable: The Ice Cream That Earns Its Line

Sunset Marina wins. It’s not a close call — it’s the best ice cream on Dale Hollow, and on a holiday weekend, there will be a line. But the line is just proof you found the right place. Cones are always a delicious choice, but if it’s a hot weekend – you might want to consider a cup: those flavors melt fast!

Some of the favorites:

  • Chocolate
  • Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Strawberry
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Cookie Dough
  • Rainbow Sherbert

Saturday Night: Willow Grove Kicks off Summer with Brother Rains

Anyone who has spent a Saturday night at Willow Grove Marina in the summer already knows they have mastered the lake party. Pull your boat up, grab some pizza and beer, sit on the dock, and listen to a great band play all the summer classics with the lake behind them.

Who is kicking off the summer? The absolute crowd favorite always: Brother Rains!

A few draft beers in, the dance floor gets going and it doesn’t stop. Memorial Weekend is the kickoff — the first Saturday night of the season done right. Be there for it.

Sunday Night: Mike's Landing Closes Out the Weekend

If Willow Grove opens the weekend, Mike’s Landing at Sulfur Creek Marina closes it. More live music, the best bar on Dale Hollow, and the kind of crowd that makes it genuinely hard to leave Sunday night. Which is exactly the point. A weekend on this lake should be hard to walk away from.

Of course, if you can’t make it Sunday night, check out their musical lineup for the entire weekend on their Facebook page.

Know someone who needs to be on Dale Hollow this weekend? Send this to your crew. Tag the friend who’s been saying they want to do a lake trip all year. This is the weekend — and now they have the full plan.
